ABOUT

Sojin Ryu is a Korean-American music composer.

Music has always been around her from an early age. She loved listening to music, singing in the church choir, and playing her favorite songs on the piano by ear. She played as an accompanist for the orchestra during middle school, and sang in a choir during high school. She also volunteered to play organ and piano for her church mass every week before she left for college. With her deep interest in music, she studied Choral Music Education and graduated from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Sojin loved working with students and knew that she desired to have a career in music, but she naturally realized that her passion was to make something creative on her own. From that moment on, she wanted to learn more about composition. She studied and obtained Master's degree in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games from Berklee College of Music, Valencia. As part of the culminating experience, she had the chance to record and conduct her original piece 'Trip to Alps' performed by a fifty-plus piece orchestra at Air Studios in London.

Last year, she participated as a Fellow for the Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive Workshop in 2021. She met wonderful mentors and talented fellow composers during the workshop. With the help of all the mentors and fellows, her piece 'As Before' was beautifully recorded at the Newman Scoring Stage in Fox Studios. She also conducted the piece, leading about thirty-seven professional instrumentalists.

Sojin has scored for short films and a variety of drama series. She has collaborated with a talented composer Michael Choi, to score AI Her and Love yA. Sojin is actively composing her own music as well, experimenting different sounds to find her own style. Recently, Sojin has been a part of the music team as a composer for ArenaNet's MMORPG, Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. She has worked closely with one of the greatest game composers Maclaine Diemer for this very special project.

There was always music that was memorable with the scenes that left a lasting impression in the movies and dramas she watched. Being able to project a visual scene using music seems to have come to her as a big attraction in so many ways. Sojin will continue to learn, compose, and collaborate with others in the hopes that her music can create such wonderful experience for many people.
